The first success stories
In Spain, thousands of cats have been treated since 2019. Among the earliest cases is Gaia, an FeLV-positive cat from Madrid, belonging to a rescue association in the northern Sierra de Madrid, whose carers went to extraordinary lengths to find out about the treatment and obtain it for her.
She is still very much alive and thriving as of late 2023. The early days were difficult — knowledge was scarce, and GS-441524 was not yet approved. It was through FIP Warriors, a group founded in the United States in collaboration with Dr Niels Pedersen, that awareness of the treatment and the possibility of a cure began to spread.
